It´s been a difficult opening for Mallorca with Spain's top two teams in the first three games. After losing at home to Barcelona and drawing at home to Celta a trip to the Bernabeu was on offer at the weekend. Mallorca had Muriqi and Morlanes back from suspension and changed their line-up from the Celta game. They started with five at the back with new signing Kumballa part of a central three and Toni Lato in at left back for Mojica. Sanchez, Mascarell and Asano were on the bench in a changed midfield and frontline. It looked like a move for containment against Madrids superstars.

So it came as a big surprise when Mallorca went ahead in the 18th minute with what looked like a headed goal from a corner from Muriqi. Replays showed it had actually hit him on the shoulder and nestled in the corner. It´s going to be key for Mallorca this season that Muriqi gets his scoring boots or head on. Madrid had barely threatened up to that point apart from a marginal offside goal from Mbappe. but that changed in the 37th and 38th minute with goals from Guler and Vinicius Junior. The second half had few chances but Mallorca came very close with a shot from Samu Costa that was cleared off the line and two dissallowed goals for Madrid for offside and handball respectively.

A good performance from Mallorca but unfortunately a loss and they currently lie in the relegation places. It looks like Larin and Maffeo will have left the club following the transfer deadline day and no new incomings apart from the ones already announced.
