Real Mallorca 1 Levante 1 Match Report

After a morale boosting 1-3 win at Sevilla last time out, Real Mallorca fans were looking forward to welcoming newly promoted Levante to the Son Moix. Unfortunately there were a couple of factors that without doubt put some people off lending their support. Firstly the weather, it absolutely bucketed down before during and after the game and at one point I was expecting Noah and his ark to make an appearance. Secondly La Liga had decided to put El Classico on literally at the end of the Mallorca game, so some people chose their warm and dry sofa to watch both games.

After making such an impact after coming on as substitutes last week Mojica and Mateu Joseph retained their places in the team. The rain didn’t help the standard of the game in the first half, with neither team dominating. Levante went ahead with the first meaningful attack in the 21st minute. A very scrappy goal from Eyong which ping ponged around the area and was indicative of the conditions. The second half wasn’t much better because of the weather. The highlight though was Mallorca’s equaliser in the 79th minute. A cross from Mojica found its way to Maffeo on tbe edge of the area, he cut inside and curled a beautiful shot into the top corner. It’s good to see Maffeo back playing and looking like the good player he was a couple of seasons ago.

Mallorca nearly threw the point away in the last minute. A poor free kick from Pablo Torre led to a Levante breakaway and only a fine save from Leo Roman prevented Jose Luis Morales from snatching all three points.

Mallorca now lie in 16th place and next up is a difficult away fixture at 6th placed Real Betis in Seville on Sunday at 21.00.

The next home game is Sunday the 9th of November versus Getafe, with kick off at 18.30.
